Torches under the magnifying glass: an ever-growing table of my tests!

Torch comparison
Welcome to my blog! If you're a torch fan too, or you're looking for the perfect lighting solution, you're in the right place. I'm happy to announce that I've put up an ever-growing table here, collecting the torches that have passed through my hands recently.

In the table you'll find every important spec that can help you choose: brightness, colour temperature, runtime and more. And that's not all! For each torch I've also added a link to buy it, a discount code where I have one, and my test video. So you don't just see the numbers, you can also watch how the model performs in practice.

If you'd like to browse the table sorted in ascending order, click the link below:

I hope the table helps you choose your next torch. Check back regularly, because it keeps growing with new tests! Happy browsing!

Lens types and their abbreviations:

Convex lens
Abbreviation: CVX
Description: A convex lens directs light towards a central focal point. It's usually used for long-throw lights.

Concave lens
Abbreviation: CCV
Description: A concave lens spreads light out. It's often used in optical systems to make images smaller.

Polycarbonate lens
Abbreviation: PC
Description: Very impact-resistant and light. Often used as the lens in torches, protective gear and cameras.

Aspheric lens
Abbreviation: ASP
Description: A lens with a non-spherical surface that reduces distortion and improves image quality. Often used in optical and camera systems.

TIR (Total Internal Reflection) lens
Abbreviation: TIR
Description: A TIR lens guides light using total internal reflection, for efficient beam control.

Biconvex lens
Abbreviation: BCVX
Description: Convex on both sides, which gives a stronger focusing effect.

Tempered glass lens
Abbreviation: TGL
Description: A tempered glass lens is especially impact-resistant and stands up very well to mechanical damage. Mainly used in torches, cameras and other technical devices.

Fresnel, like on overhead projectors

A diffusion layer is usually abbreviated DF (Diffusion Filter) or DL (Diffusion Layer), but other labels are used too, depending on the industry.
A diffusion layer is a special coating or surface structure on a lens that spreads the light more evenly, reducing glare and hot spots.

Reflector types and their abbreviations:

Parabolic reflector
Abbreviation: PR
Description: A parabolic reflector is bowl-shaped and gathers the light into a single central focal point.

Smooth reflector
Abbreviation: SMO
Description: A smooth reflector has a smooth, shiny surface that concentrates the light and gives a long throw.

Orange peel reflector
Abbreviation: OP
Description: A textured surface that looks like orange peel. It spreads the light gently, so the beam is more even.

Hybrid reflector
Abbreviation: HYB
Description: A hybrid reflector combines the advantages of smooth and textured surfaces, giving both long throw and a beam without dark rings.

Elliptical reflector
Abbreviation: ER
Description: An elliptical reflector has two focal points and sends the light in different directions.

Polished reflector
Abbreviation: PLR
Description: A polished reflector has a very smooth, shiny surface for maximum reflection.

TIR (Total Internal Reflection) optics
Abbreviation: TIR
Description: TIR optics guide the light by internal reflection, through a closed optical system.
